Review: CDR-King's 7" Fastpad [FP-011(B)-M]

As a preschool teacher, bringing an iPad with me in the classroom loaded with educational games and videos plays an IMPORTANT ROLE. It helps me contain my students with very short attention span. I used to bring my iPad 4th Gen always until I was traumatized when somebody made "laslas" (ripped) my bag in a jeepney while I'm on my way home. I was really scared because the rip is big enough for him to get my iPad which costs a fortune (well, for me). Good thing he wasn't able to get it. Since then, I did not EVER bring my iPad again.
I browsed the internet for cheap alternatives for an iPad. There are a lot like Coby, Skyworth, iFive, Torque, Cherry Mobile and China Haipads but what I liked most (and the most affordable too!) is CR-King's new line of tablets. I immediately bought one without thinking twice. For me, it is an investment (and an alternative to an iPad) since I use it everyday at school.

This 7" Android tablet costs only P2,380 pesos excluding the SD card. The package includes the unit, charger, usb cable, another cable so you can open flash disks using the tablet, manual and the installer.

Specifications: Check the one written on the box! :) You can click the picture or just check CDR-King's website.

Don't judge! The color I picked is baby pink.. For a change since almost all the gadgets I have is white :) Except for my touch and shuffle! The back's pretty simple; just the way I like it. And yes, there's only one camera which is located in front.

Right side: volume, 3.5mm jack for earphones or speakers, and the slot where you put the SD card.

Top side: sleep button, charger outlet and microphone.

Front: there's its VGA front camera and its 7" captive screen.

It's my first time to have an android so I was too excited to download apps and themes! I heard there are a lot of free pretty themes in the Play Store!!

I downloaded mostly office related apps, religious apps like novenas and prayers, feel-good quotes and a few games. Is my theme cute? It's name is Zcute and it's free!!

Games like Fruit Ninja, Candy Crush, Temple Run, Pou and Dots are working perfectly! No lags so no worries! I only downloaded several games.. haven't tried others!

Videos I downloaded are working perfectly too! I'm able to contain my students with the videos + speakers. Sound is pretty soft so you might need headphones or speakers to fully enjoy what you're watching.

Don't expect an instagram worthy picture from its camera :) It is one of the worst I've tried. Not an important factor for me so it's fine.

Battery is so-so. Lasts up to 4 hours. Charging time is 3 hours.

Let me just share to you, since this is 7" tablet and there are a lot of other brands which produce 7" tablets, there are a lot of shops / tiangges who sell generic leather cases for this size! I was able to score one near MRT Boni for only P100 pesos or (2.50 dollars).

To sum it all up, this tablet is not perfect but it is what I need: able to play videos, cheap, handy, has useful apps (microsoft office for free!), and easy to use!

Oh wait, did I mention that this serves as a TV also when I'm at work? Amazeballs coming from an iOS user! Any questions? Click "contact me" above :)

Hope you find my review helpful.

Update: May 2, 2016
After years of using it.. Well, I don't use it all the time. But I still use it up to now.. :) It is very useful in the current moment since I am planning to take the IELTS soon and there are a wide variety of IELTS lessons available for download online. I downloaded all the videos I need and I transfered it here in the CDRKING tablet I bought years ago :) The only problem I'm encountering is it's very short battery life. It doesn't last long.. So I just keep it charging when I'm using it. No worries for me thiugh, I still find it useful when reviewing :)

Hi, I am also a preschool teacher and was wondering of buying the same tablet too! How's the performance? By the way did you test if this is compatible with skype? It doesn't have any usb port or bluetooth? Please let me know. Thank you!

Dear Sarah,

I used your review for my Grade 11 class in English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP). Your review of this Android tablet is so comprehensive and yet not so technical. It has a personal touch. Thank you (in advance) and God bless!

Sir G
